What kinds of food or drink should I serve?
If you’re throwing a family reunion then it’s a nice idea to choose dishes that you know your family will enjoy. Try serving foods from your culture or some of Grandma’s old recipes. If you’re throwing the party at a house or park then a barbeque is another fun option, serving foods like hot dogs, burgers, grilled chicken, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, salad and pasta. If you’re doing a sit down or buffet, then try to choose dishes that have a variety of meat, vegetables and carbohydrates. Try to be considerate of guests who are vegetarian or lactose intolerant when planning your meals. If you are doing just appetizers and finger foods you can serve mini hamburgers, mini sandwiches, spinach cheese puffs, chips and vegetables with dip, and chicken or vegetable kabobs. It’s also customary to serve a cake in celebration of the reunion or some other desserts. For more casual house reunions you can serve beer and some liquor. For nicer events you may want to serve champagne or wine, have an open bar, or make everyone nostalgic with some spiked punch.
