How early should I start looking for my prom dress?
When it comes to prom dress shopping, the earlier you start the easier and less stressful the process will be. It’s good to start thinking about what kind of dress you want three to four months ahead of time. Start with magazines, online photos and window shopping to get some color, length and style ideas in your head. This way you’ll have more of a vision when you decide to actually go shopping. Typically it’s good to start shopping around two to three months before your prom for several reasons. The dress is the starting point for which you plan the rest of your prom look from shoes to jewelry to makeup. The sooner you find a dress, the sooner you can decide on accessories, hair and makeup. Another reason why it’s important to get your dress early is because there is a good chance you may need to alter your dress, and tailoring shops get very busy during prom season, as it coincides with the wedding season. You might have to wait weeks to get your dress altered. Lastly, you shouldn’t underestimate how long it takes you to find the perfect prom dress, especially if you are on a budget. You might have to try on dozens of dresses before you find the one for you and you wouldn’t want to rush the process and wind up feeling stressed out the weekend before your prom. Long story short: Start searching for your prom dress early!
